Beginning of Her LifeThe birth of Athena was one of the most important stories in Greek mythology. Metis. The goddess of prudence and her father was Zeus god of sky and lightning. Metis was fated to give birth to two children and these children would be more powerful than Zeus. Zeus was afraid that his children might overthrow him and he decided to swallow the pregnant Métis before she could give birth. Later on, Zeus started to experience terrible headaches and when the pain started to get worse he called the Greek god Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmith to cut open his skull. When the skull was opened the goddess Athena sprang forth from his head all dress in full armor.
